Wednesday, March 8th - Walden Arena

For the third time in as many years, the Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes and Lockerby Vikings will share NOSSA Girls Hockey honours.

The Alouettes won the "A"/"AA" banner by defeating the visiting Widdifield Wildcats of North Bay 4-1, while the Vikings won the "AAA" banner by defeating the St Joseph/Scollard Hall Bears of North Bay by a final score of 1-0 in games hosted earlier today at the Walden Arena.

Special teams carried the load for the Als in their game with three of the four goals scored on the power play, and the fourth short handed. Melissa Camirand led the Notre-Dame attack with one goal and two helpers, Melanie Bimm and Joelle Loiselle both added a single and an assist while Manon Davis added the short handed marker to round out the scoring. Bimm was named the game MVP for the Als.

For the Wildcats, who trailed by period scores of 2-0 and 4-0, Morgan Bonnah's goal with 12:40 remaining in the third proved too little, too late, despite an outstanding performance from netminder Kayla Lefebvre. For her efforts, Lefebvre was named the game MVP for Widdifield.

In the "AAA" match-up, Christen Schutt's goal with 10:07 remaining in the first period proved all that the Vikings needed to dispose of the Bears. Vikings' netminder Jamie Tessier was outstanding in the latter stages of the game, with the Vikes managing to kill a five minute penalty near the end of the final period to seal the victory. Lady Bears' goaltender Tara Chapman was similarly stellar, receiving game MVP honours for her efforts, while the Vikings game MVP honours went to defenceman Regan Thompson.

With the wins, both the Als and Vikings now qualify for their respective OFSAA championships, being hosted March 21st to 23rd in St Thomas and London.
